Part of the Process

Once I nail down a direction I’ll pull out the big photoshop guns and get rid of the junky masks and go in there and fix all the poor craftsmanship. It’s been a really great experience to have a project that encompasses building with my hands, photography and type, all working together. While the results could have been possible just rendering in 3D software, I don’t feel like I would have arrived at some of the results I did.

It Stands

Ok, it’s ugly. There are visible seams, glue marks, pencil marks, uneven x-acto work and the thing just doesn’t square up. But damnit, I’m proud of the sonuvabitch for standing up on its own power with nothin’ but PVA holdin’ ‘er together. I’ve never even built a cube before, so being charged with drawing and building this thing scared the hell out of me. While it’s rough around the edges and I wanted to turn my blade on myself a number of times I’m proud of the sonuvabitch. Makes me feel like I can do anything if I put my mind to it. And hey, I learned a thing or two.

Fortune magazine

At a hip vintage store in Federal Hill I found a stack of old Fortune magazines from the late 50s early 60s. Loving the masthead on this thing. It’s filled with some great gems, like this guy.

Late, into the Night

newBlogI love the feeling of going to far with something, where I get entirely distracted by something productive and instead of budgeting my time wisely, I throw everything away in the name of progress. Today I stayed up until 7am working on my new blog layout. What started as a simple layout project turned into hours of light reading about CSS3 and HTML 5. The new blog layout should have a couple of the CSS3 tricks in it, which will probably be useless since most of you are probably reading this in Google Reader anyway. Regardless, it feels good to put everything into progressing. I feel like I got better tonight.

With the semester over I have a lot of work to post, which should be happening soon. I’ve decided I should update this much more regularly. Daily would be ideal, but I’ll take some baby steps first before committing to something so serious. It’s light out, I’m not making any sense. I guess the point is, learning is great. I like it.
